NXTLOG 3000 Winners - Is it YOUR robot?

We have been searching through the many creative and innovative MINDSTORMS NXT projects on NXTLOG to showcase as number 3000. It's hard to select just one project that demonstrates the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT spirit of creating and building as all NXTLOG projects show that! We did find a few projects worth highlighting as NXTLOG reached the 3000 mark.

The first project is the NeXcavator created by nxtmonger. This project was inspired by two things: (1) not being satisfied with the LEGO MINDSTORMS model RoboArm T-56, and (2) a challenge by a friend to improve it. We appreciate nxtmonger's contribution to NXTLOG, inspiring MINDSTORMS builders go out there and rebuilt it!

The next project is the Flippy Bot created by grandcanyon388. This project shows what can happen when you have an accident with building and programming and just "go with it."  We're glad to see grandcanyon388 sharing how  "Happy Accidents" can lead to cool creations.

Another project and submission for the Summer Bot Building Challenge is Drinkbot by dethbot18. This robotic invention was dreamed up for a challenge, but represents an everyday household item that everyone could use. Thanks dethbot18 for sharing this fun and refreshing invention!

3rd NXTLOG Building Challenge Winners!

The NXTLOG Bug Bot Building Challenge had over 60 pesky entries and it was not easy to judge (as you can see yet again by the number of honerable mentions we just had to give). Please view and comment on all the amazing entries to this competition by entering the tag "NXT200707"

Here are the winners (drum roll please):

CHAMPION'S AWARD
Mothbot V2.1
Created by: HTech

A first entry to NXTLOG, Mothbot V2.1's purpose is to act as a moth does and go towards the light. The Robot turns itself to move straight to the light, and then a picture appears on the NXT's LCD and the wings start to move. The robot is also designed to avoid the obstacles. It's programmed in a very simple but well constructed way. Read more about how the Mothbot V2.1 was constructed and programmed on Htech's NXTLOG. For excellent design, performance, and NXTLOG documentation Htech wins the Champion's award!

ROBOT DESIGN AWARD
LibelleBot (Dragonfly)
Created by: florijNXT

Libelle is Dutch for dragonfly that's why florijNXT named this robot LibelleBot! The Libellebot can move its wings in a realistic way, and it can also wiggle its tail. florijNXT created a beautiful looking and moving robot design, and explains how the robot was designed in detail on this project's NXTLOG. This is florijNXT's first ever NXT project so we are very proud to present the Robot Design award for LibelleBot! We can't wait to see more amazing work from florijNXT.

ROBOT PERFORMANCE AWARD
Mantis
Created by: mad1s792

Another first entry to NXTLOG, mad1s792 created a bug that catches bugs! This project only used parts from the NXT kit. The Mantis bot will swat anything that flies in front of the light sensor, and the robot will open its trap, wait for something to set it off, swat the arm down and move to a different spot to set the trap again. It drives until it meets an obstacle, backs up a little, turns and opens the swatter waiting for its next feed. For the innovative idea, program and robot construction, we award mad1s792 the Robot Performance Award!

CREATIVE USE OF NXTLOG AWARD
butterfly, fly catcher
Created by: AidanHockey34

This simple yet effective robot is completely made with LEGO elements including a net from a LEGO Sports Hockey set. The robot is designed to catch bugs. When the ultrasonic sensor detects a difference in sound patterns, it will slam the net down trapping an annoying fly. The robot can also be switch to a night mode and catch moths using the light sensor's red diode as a light attractor. AidanHockey34 clearly documents this project in steps and even caught a picture of a fly visiting!  (AidanHockey34 has 8 projects on NXTLOG)
