Here are the winners of the MoonBots 2.0 competition!

Here are the winners of the MoonBots 2.0 competition!

31/08/2011

Finally, we have found the teams who have won first, second and thrird prize of the MoonBots 2.0 competition! During the last two months 20 finalist teams have been competing in this contest, challenged to design, build and program a LEGO MINDSTORMS robot to travel on its own through a Moon landscape made out of LEGO elements. The robot should not only make it through the rough landscape, but also pick up objects, take pictures and make it back to its starting point – without human interference!

The twenty finalist teams have also been given the assignment to give public presentations about Lunar exploration, and explain why it is important to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as those subjects are the foundation for those who will work with space exploration and making new discoveries in the future. And the many teams have made some fantastic presentations and have made contact to companies and people working with space exploration as their daily business.

We are happy to announce that the following teams have won the prizes of the MoonBots 2.0 competition:

Grand Prize Winner:

Team LEGOAces from Granville, Ohio.

Congratulations to team captain Thomas Miller and his team mates Will, Daniel, Eric, Josh and Matt!

The team has won a trip to LEGOLAND® Florida that will open 15 October this year. Adding to this they have also won and an FRC, FTC or FLL team registration and kit.

Second Prize Winner:

Team Just Ducky from Woodbury, Minnesota.

Congratulations to team captain Keith Brown and the team: Mary Rose Brown, Steffan Brown, Lars Olson, Riti Khandelwal and Anita Kalatoor!

The team has won six SkyScout Personal Planetarium sets, and an FRC, FTC or FLL team registration and kit.

Third Prize Winner:

Team Lunar Lords from Bellevue, Washington.

Congratulations to team captain Di Wittenmyer together with Andrew,William, Rose and Jack!

The team has won an FRC, FTC or FLL team registration and kit.

The competition has been a fantastic experience for us in the LEGO MINDSTORMS team, seeing how the many teams have used their imagination and creativity in creating ingenious robots for this simulated moon exploration, and have been faced with solving the same type of problems that scientists and engineers are dealing with today.

We would like to thank all 75 teams from all over the world who signed up for the MoonBots 2.0 competition, and in particular congratulate the 20 finalist teams that made it into the Second Phase of the competition, and again the three winning teams!

We are looking forward to see more robotic exploration from you all in the future!
