Moonbot 2.0

Can you put a robot on the moon?

23/05/2011

Now you have the chance to use your best skills for designing, building and programming a LEGO MINDSTORMS robot to be part of a global competition to simulate the Google Lunar X PRIZE Challenge, called MoonBots 2.0.

This is the second MoonBots competition, now with a slightly different challenge for all who wants to participate!

The ultimate challenge is to design a LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT robot that can navigate in a Lunar landscape made out of LEGO elements, and carry out various missions, under time pressure. But the very first task is to form a team and sign up - go to the Moonbots website to do that.

The competition is divided into two phases, where Phase One includes registration, which is now open for entries, and once registered teams have to submit some materials during this phase.

Teams will be asked to create a video based on four different categories related to space exploration. Teams will also be asked to submit a written proposal of why their robot should be funded to go the Moon.

In Phase Two of the MoonBots Challenge, teams will submit a CAD robot design proposal. They will also complete a STEM outreach project. Teams will also complete a live lunar mission based on the game board field.

Team members must be between age 9 and 17 to participate, and must have a Team Captain at least 18 years old or older at the time of registration. The minimum team size is three people and the maximum is six.

Registration is free and no purchase is necessary to participate in the competition.
