The snapbot! challenge was popular with NXTLOGgers working to create the greatest MINDSTORMS NXT robot possible with a minimum amount of LEGO bricks. There are now hundreds of models on NXTLOG that you can build in a snap! Although only a few robots can fill the award categories, there are many amazing snapbots to visit, comment, rate, and get inspired by. So get started by searching the tag "snapbot."
Here are the winners:
“NO BRAINER” CHAMPION’S AWARD
This award goes to the robot that best fits all the award categories.
Wormy the inch-bot
Created by:
jayko543
Wormy the inch-bot, created by jayko543, greatly fulfills all the Snapbot! challenge award categories. Great design and function at 70 LEGO pieces, and a well documented NXTLOG allow any visitor a chance to build their own Wormy in 10 minutes. Jayko543 also includes a video of Wormy the inch-bot being built from scratch. Thanks jayko543 for a snappy snapbot!
“KID STUFF” ROBOT DESIGN AWARD
This award goes to the robot with the most innovative design, and where all the LEGO bricks have a form as well as a function.
My Very First Biped
Created by:
nxtstep101
nxtstep101's 3rd project on NXTLOG is a first try in the biped category. This MINDSTORMS NXT robot was built with only 57 LEGO pieces and stands a little over 6 inches tall. It only uses one motor to walk. When it walks it sort of waddles back and forth. We agree with nxtstep101 that it is very cute! Make sure to watch the video of My Very First Biped in action. Congrats nxtstep101!
“CHILD’S PLAY” ROBOT PERFORMANCE AWARD
This award goes to the robot that moves efficiently with a minimum amount of bricks and maximum potential.
NXT Jedi 2.0
Created by:
#1legolover2
#1legolover2's NXT Jedi 2.0 is a snappier upgrade to a previosly created NXT Jedi robot. Like a true Jedi fighter, this robot can move a lightsaber up, down, left, right, as well as twist left and right. The robot uses 3 motors, a small number of beams, and connector pegs. This sleek robot moves efficiently with a minimum amount of bricks and maximum potential! The NXT Jedi 2.0 well deserves the "Child's Play" Robot Performance Award.
“EASY AS PIE” BEST DOCUMENTATION AWARD
This award goes to the robot project that best gives inspiration to others through its NXTLOG description.
Arthropet
Created by: rocfargas
rocfargas' Arthropod robot looks like a spider with antennae (cables). The Arthropod is the result of a little exercise rocfargas did in school to study the essence of movement. rocfargas first started building a mechanism with no wheels and only one motor and with a minimum number of LEGO bricks. Later an identical second mechanism was added and then an NXT to make an autonomous robot. rocfargas provides a video that shows the robot running with the NXT attached and without. The program was made in a snap. It's simply a time loop with the two motors running infinitely in opposite directions. The whole robot has only 38 beams. For an exceptional sharing of the robot building and design, rocfargas' Arthropod receives the "Easy as Pie" Documentation Award.
