#4 - Stonehenge – by Philippe ‘Philo’ Hurbain
The fourth bonus model for the NXT 2.0 set comes from MINDSTORMS Community Partner (MCP) Philo, who is an experienced inventor of MINDSTORMS robots.
‘Hello, I am Philippe Hurbain, nicknamed "Philo". An old time LEGO MINDSTORMS robots builder, I have always been interested in color sorters - maybe because I am a rather untidy guy - and even conceived and built my own color sensor for the RCX [from the first MINDSTORMS sets that came out in 1998].
So when I got my NXT 2.0 kit with its brand new Color Sensor my first creation was an obvious choice! The mechanical design is modeled after the industrial pick-and-place robotics arms, flexible enough to allow many ball shuffling and sorting scenarios.
The ball storage posts and feeding ramp placed in circle around the arm look like the menhir and dolmen in a megalithic site, hence the name "Stonehenge" I gave to this creation.
I hope you will enjoy building it and showing it to your friends, as much as I did!
Usage notice: compared to the official NXT 2.0 Color Sorter model, the Color Sensor of Stonehenge is not shielded from external light, and it will work well only in low-light conditions. On bright sunny days, you may use the ball-juggling program!
