Ask the NXTperts - Tips from the NXTperts

I'm thinking about buying a NXT kit for my son/daughter as a present. Is it required to buy some books or other sets in addition or can he/she just start with the kit and have fun with it for some while?

The NXT Retail Kit already includes building instructions and programming tutorials for four entertaining robots of different complexity that can all be built from the set at hand. These are the Tribot (a 3 wheeled vehicle), Spike (a scorpion), Alpha Rex (a humanoid robot), and RoboArm T-56 (a robotic grabber arm). These projects can keep a beginner occupied for some weeks to help him/her become acquainted with the NXT and provide hours of fun.

Afterwards, it might be useful to explore the
contributions of the large online MINDSTORMS community (like NXTLOG) or buy one or two books.
